Highlights and lowlights of the upcoming Star Wars Celebration VI
Star Wars Celebration VI is taking place in Orlando, Florida next weekend (23 to 26 August) at the Orange County Convention Center. You can learn more about it here.
I won't be attending. Despite my relatively newfound status as a Star Wars blogger (prompted by my decision to write and self-publish A Long Time Ago), I'm not the convention-going type. I'm not knocking it--if you dig it, do. I'll be golfing and sunning myself in the Okanagan Valley with the family.
So what am I missing? Here's my take on the highlights and lowlights of the convention. If I were going I'd want to see:
- An Evening With Kevin Smith: Probably the most interesting event of the convention, at least on paper, and I doubt he'll disappoint.
- Star Wars Marvel Comics: This would take me back. I'd really like to see this, actually.
- Star Wars Cars: "Star Wars fans drove their personalized art on wheels to Celebration VI, some from many miles away. Come by and see their fascinating cars on display." I'm not really a car guy, but I'd go to this just to see how obsessed some people are.
- Star Wars Uncut: Recreating A Classic: The creator of Star Wars Uncut, Casey Pugh, explains how it was done.
- Rancho Obi-Wan Experience: Billed as "treasures from Steve Sansweet’s Rancho Obi-Wan, the world’s largest privately-held Star Wars collection". It would be useless to resist this.
- Star Wars Speed Dating: I'm very happily married, thanks, but I'd have to check this out. I would imagine David Attenborough's narration of the curious mating rituals. (He is an expert on nerds in paradise, you know.)
Here now are a couple sessions I would happily skip.
- Why We Love the Prequels: "Join Bryan Young...and a panel of Star Wars fans of note, as they discuss just exactly why fans should love Episodes I, II, and III." This panel was actually called "Why You Should Love the Prequels" until a few days ago. I'll state the obvious: if someone needs to tell you why you should like a movie, you probably shouldn't like that movie.
- An Hour With Anthony Daniels: Sounds long, doesn't it?
